A Last-Minute Decision

I had a ticket to go see Good Riddance at the Rickshaw Theater which is not too far from my place. I wasn’t too sure about going at first for two reasons : mainly because I was leaving for Las Vegas the next day but also beacause i had just seen them at Warped Orlando in November.

The price was definitely decent especially for the amount of bands there were to perform that night. A little too many if you ask me, with five including the main act we can almost call it a mini festival.

I am always more than willing to discover new bands especially when they’re included in the price but four might be a little too many. I did listen to a few songs from each group but it didn’t conviced me so I only showed up to see Good Riddance.

A high‑energy night with punk veterans at the Rickshaw Theatre

One thing I knew for sure was that they would play longer than they did at Warped. I guess that woud make another reason why I wanted to go so there are three now ! They released an album not too long ago which I personally did not hook up onto too much but there are many other songs that I was really looking forward to hearing.

I’m giving them the veteran status, they’ve been around for a long time and they’re still here rocking it many years later. They still sound amazing and are clearly still having fun doing it. They looked exactly the same as they did in November at Warped Orlando, they didn’t change at all ! It was only my second time at the Rickshaw and i really like that place so far, the crowds were good too.

It offers great views and the possibility of either standing or sitting anywhere you like. Not the best sound i’ve heard in my life but i would not expect too much from that type of venue anyway. It’s a little grimey but I like it, it goes well with the type of bands that are playing there. I would recommend you wear earplugs !

Celebrating a Classic Album

I would say i like songs from most of their albums but many of the songs that are still hitting me the most are the ones from A comprehensive guide to modern rebellion. It just celebrated its 30th anniversary on June 4th. I got served as they played a lot of them !

Stage Presence & Performance Style

They played for about an hour, they are not only pleasant to hear but also to watch. I saw a ressemblance from the last performance I had seen of the band a few months ago. They each have a style, a way of moving and vibing while they sing or play. The singer really likes to punch, I would say it’s one of his signature move, he punches up, down and around !

Still Doing It for the Love of Music

We can tell that they still really enjoy making music together and although it might be one of the reasons of them still beeing around, it’s clearly not all about the money. It’s about making music because that is what they do, is a part of who they are and is a way for them to express themselves.

I would go and see them again and don’t regret going at all. I think i would have regretted not going ! I was thinking of giving the new album a few more tries in hopes of finding my next favorite song.

They were doing a few more shows here in north america mostly western Canada and then off to Europe for the summer and back to Canada for Warped Montreal in August.
